$1,000 reward offered after puppy found with his ear cut off

The Beauties and Beasts animal rescue group is offering a $1,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest on the case of a puppy that was found with one ear cut off.

The one-month-old puppy, re-named Brooks, was found by a passerby on Saturday around 5 p.m., behind a laundromat at Harry and George Washington Boulevard. His right ear had been cut off.

"This is going to be something that was quite painful for this puppy. Just because they're puppies doesn't mean they don't feel pain. It would've cried out. It would've yelped," said Wichita Police Officer Heather Frazier.

The puppy was taken to the Veterinary Emergency Hospital, which is currently caring for him. Beauties and Beasts thanked donors for helping raise more than $2,500 to pay for the emergency surgery.

The Wichita Police Department animal cruelty investigator has opened an investigation on the case. Any information and tips can be sent to hfrazier@wichita.gov.
